The 2017 Bike Oxford Routes
All three routes are brand new for 2017. The event will start at Oxford University Rugby Club and the routes head out into the glorious surrounding Oxfordshire countryside and beyond before heading back to the Rugby Club where riders can relax and enjoy some post-ride food and drink.
The 80 Mile Route
Bike Oxford returns to one of its favourite locations in 2017 with a visit to the Hook Norton brewery where refreshments can be taken after a rolling 30 miles into the Cotswolds. The route then weaves its way through a catalogue of pretty villages with a second stop at Combe cricket club. Finally, riders will pass the historic Blenheim Palace before arriving back at the Rugby Club where everyone can enjoy, guess what?, a pint of Old Hooky!
The B4 50 Mile Route
The B4 50 mile route is a forgiving, classic ride which includes a few cheeky lumps to warm everyone up. Heading north west into the Cotswolds through Islip and Kiddington, the route has a well-earned rest stop at Combe Cricket Club before weaving its way back to the Rugby Club for a deserved pint of Old Hooky.
25 Mile Route
A more gentle course than the longer routes, the 25 miler allows riders to relax and enjoy the inclusive feel of the day. A delightful 2 mile stretch takes in the sites of Oxford centre before weaving out of town and heading to our feed station at Horton-cum-Studley. The return leg passes through Boarstall, Islip and Woodeaton before returning to the city of dreaming spires.
The 15 Mile Vintage Ride
The team at Bike Oxford are delighted to announce their partnership with Golden Age Cycles of Banbury, one of the UK’s leading classic and collector’s cycle stores.
Classic bicycles are becoming more popular and to support this, in 2017, Bike Oxford will include two dedicated routes for riders on older machines.
Dig out your pre-1987 steel machine, dress up in period clothes, and you’ll be back in the era of Eddy Merckx for a ride on either the 15 or 25 mile route. Taking in historic Oxford, the suburbs and quiet country roads, riders will enjoy the full support offered to our sportive riders.
Our classic vintage ride, covering 15 miles, is designed for pre-1928 bicycles and tricycles, (boneshakers, ‘ordinaries’, hobby-horses, sociable, etc).
At the event village at Oxford University Rugby Club, returning classic riders are encouraged to present their beautiful steeds in the best possible condition whilst wearing period attire for our prestigious ‘Concourse d’Elegance’, with awards for the best presented machine and rider in various categories.
If you have any questions related to the vintage rides, please contact Brian Reid.
